FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WS-I Named to Software Development Times 100
for Second Consecutive Year
LOS ANGELES, May 17, 2004 — The Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS‑I) today announced that BZ Media’s Software Development Times (SD Times) chose WS-I for inclusion in the second annual SD Times 100, an award honoring leading companies in the field of software development. WS-I has received this distinction in each of the two years the list has been compiled. In selecting the industry’s leaders, innovators and influencers, SD Times editors looked for companies and organizations that had demonstrated leadership by setting the industry agenda and by advancing the art of software development. The SD Times 100 can be viewed at www.sdtimes.com.
“Each year, the editors of BZ Media’s SD Times 100 look for companies and influencers that set the technical and market leadership for the software development industry,” said Alan Zeichick, editor-in-chief of SD Times. “When choosing the SD Times 100 this year, we carefully considered each organization’s offerings and reputation with developers, as well as the conversations we’ve heard about the organization and its products and technologies, as a sign of leadership within the industry.’
WS-I, which was recognized in the Influencers category, has been called by the editors of SD Times “the best hope for real Web services interop.” Since the organization’s inception in February, 2002, WS-I has delivered the Basic Profile 1.0, providing developers and the Web services industry with the necessary guidance, best practices and tools to successfully deploy interoperable Web services. WS-I is currently working to develop interoperability guidelines to address attachments and Web services security. Public drafts previewing the Basic Profile 1.1, Attachments Profile 1.0 and Simple SOAP Binding Profile 1.0 can be viewed at http://www.ws-i.org/documents.aspx. A public draft of the Basic Security Profile is expected later this month.
“We are excited to be recognized by the editors of SD Times,” said Tom Glover, president and chairman of WS-I. “WS-I has delivered practical implementation guidance to help the software development community successfully develop and deploy interoperable Web services. This is a real contribution to the software industry and WS-I members and their companies should take pride in this accomplishment. Today, vendors of all sizes are releasing products that are ‘WS-I compliant’ and increasingly customers are requiring WS-I compliance for their internal and external Web services initiatives. With this kind of industry cooperation, support and awareness will accelerate the development and deployment of interoperable Web services across platforms, applications and programming languages.”
