
WS-I Forms Special Interest Group to Promote Activities in Japan
Accelerating the Promotion of Global Web Services Interoperability
TOKYO, May 30, 2003 — The Web Services Interoperability Organization (WS-I) today announced the formation of the WS-I Japan Special Interest Group. The mission of the newly formed group is to increase visibility for WS-I and to promote WS-I activities in Japan. WS-I is a global industry organization chartered to promote Web services interoperability across platforms, operating systems, and programming languages. As its first activity, the Japan Special Interest Group will promote WS-I at the XML Consortium Week conference to be held this week in Tokyo. The group is also developing a Japanese translation of the WS-I Basic Profile 1.0 Working Draft and will make it public when it becomes available.
More than 15 WS-I member companies have joined the Japan Special Interest Group, including Beacon IT Inc.; BEA Systems Japan, Ltd.; Fujitsu Limited, Hewlett-Packard Japan, Ltd.; Hitachi, Ltd.; IBM Japan; Infoteria Corporation; NEC Corporation; Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation; Nomura Research Institute, Ltd.; Oracle Corporation Japan; Ricoh Company, Ltd.; SAP Japan Co., Ltd.; Sun Microsystems K.K. and Toshiba Corporation.
Other Japan Special Interest Group activities will include:
· Translation of WS-I technical documents such as the WS-I Basic Profile
· Verification of the WS-I Testing Tools and Sample Applications in Japanese computing environments
· WS-I evangelism at Web services events in Japan
· Recruiting Japanese companies
· Communication with other Web services organizations in Japan
